Don't fall for this totally legal scam

This is a scammy practice that operates in Germany which, as far as I can tell, isn't actually illegal. It is very easy to protect yourself from it: you just need to read things carefully. The heraldic blunder that wasn't: Wikipedia gets it wrong
Просмотров 10 тыс.Месяц назад
According to Wikipedia, the town of Wächtersbach embarrassed itself when it created a coat of arms that got the etymology of the name all wrong. To make matters worse, one former mayor's lasting legacy will forever be a statue that perpetuates this terrible mistake. But as I researched this one, I quickly discovered evidence to show that Wikipedia gasp! got it wrong. Here's the story of Wächter...
The rude fountains of Miltenberg

In the town of Miltenberg, there is an old and very rude fountain, which I just had to take a look at. There is also a modern fountain that is possibly even ruder. Quirks of the Frankfurt U-Bahn

Frankfurt's U-Bahn system is every bit as functional as you'd expect it to be. But it does have some interesting quirks that an average tourist might miss, so I thought I'd show you a few of them. On the way we'll be looking at an abandoned road tunnel, a storeroom that never got built, a platform that proved too short, and a random dance floor. Greater Bremen
Reminds me of how handcuffs are called “esposas” in spanish
And in half of those European countries most people will ignore the signs anyway.
The danish word for language is sprog. So similar to german
Socialism, being so successfull you need walls to keep people in. Capitalism so unsuccessfully you need walls to keep people out.
Electronics, IT, plumbing, etc... it's almost always male-female, for connectors, yes there is a sexual connotation if you think about it, so many languages use "father" and "mother". Nothing special about it.
Having driven on American roads, I can say that their signs are absolute horse shit.
There is just as many in America that don't read English and symbols are universal, so they are just revenue traps in America.
europe is stupid
Americans being dumb again unsurprisingly
This is an excellent video which explains the history really well, thank you :)
language, lengua, língua, langue, lingua that'd make dutch another odd one out, german has "sprache" and we have "taal"
maybe I'm just naive, but I have always understood it in a very wholesome way, because the nut secures the bolt, just as a mother secures her child😅
The plural forms are also different: mothers = Mütter nuts = Muttern
Germany loooooves doing that. Remember West-Berlin which was part of West Germany and also a part of Berlin, but surrounded by East Germany? Lolz
Well thank you :) I would have never known The Cleaner if it werent for this vid. It allowed me to take Der Tatortreiniger (which i hold in high regard) and softly put it on the second place and put The Cleaner on number one for me when it comes to dark comedy i know. Man The Cleaner really is funnier. I laughed my so hard a couple of times. So far my fav is the author finding the cleaner in the chair having a 'cleaning block' and then saying 'you son of a bitch'. I so love (british) english. its so much more 'out of the guts' than German. You can be more quick, more fluent, more in the situation and say so much with so little. In German it feels that you have to craft often. Many times im my life i found it so easy to come up with something funny, circumstancial and so on in english whereas in German it comes so late, due to the need to think more. Achja. Anyhow cheers m8
Aha! So you admit Europe is a "very small space"!
😂😂😂😅😅😅
As a native German speaker I got confused over the headline at first. 🙈 To my excuse, we are bilingual at home, but I feel more like a bye-lingual lately. 😅
kid named finger:
Incredibly dissatisfying story
Well that wasn't complicated at all. LOL
In Slovenia we call it "matica" which means a queen bee, but it is more related to the hexagonal shape in a hive.
hahahah, made my day Andrew.
be careful when nutting on your finger, got it
Remember kids: Don't stick your fingers up yo' mama!
German is my native language and it still took me a while to understand this. Weirdly enough, the two words aren't exactly the same in Swiss German, which might be why I didn't understand it for this long: Your mom is called "Muetter" while a nut is called "Muettere" for some reason, which might hint at the possibility of these two not being the same word after all, but I'm no linguist.
We call them mother (螺母) in Chinese too, possibly from German influence
In a nutshell. Perfect! 🎉
In Czech we call it, surprise, surprise, "mother" as well.
Bacon is more like “Schinken”
it seems stupid yankies can't follow the international system in everything.
Who is confused?
You live in a wonderful and clean environment, many could dream of :) I like your videos from your village and local stuff in your region ^_^
Im amazed that "efficient Germany" hasnt done what we've done here in Norway, which is to remove the "TV license" (as it's called here) as a separate bill, and instead incorporate it into people's taxes. You still pay the "TV license" fee, but it's automatically done along with the rest of your taxes that your employer deducts from your paycheck. It's still a controversial fee here in Norway as well, but less so now that it's sort of more hidden rather than a separate (and substantial) bill you get sent in the post
It's not legally possible in Germany. Taxes can't be earmarked for specific purposes. Also, the fee is levied on households, not wage earners, so that would just lead to extra bureaucracy: employers would have to deduct different amounts from employees' pay depending on how many other wage-earners are living at the same address.
0:55 Dood. If I were to ask you “What do you call a _contribution_ that everyone _must_ pay for a service provided to the entire country but you might never use” what would your answer be?
A "mandatory contribution". By the German legal definition of "tax", it doesn't qualify as a tax: it's levied for a specific purpose and administered by a non-governmental agency.
Wo Augenklappe?
I've been saying this for years. Not just is the state of Bremen completely surrounded by Niedersachsen, but the bit of the port in Bremerhaven is part of the city of Bremen. And glad to see you visit our little part of the country. And yes, great architecture, and then that ugly glass block. I remember a couple years ago when they redid the stones on the market and found an old ship.
Remember kids also to not finger your mother

Überwurfmutter = throw mother from the train (a sleeve nut)
I tell you something, it the. Birthplace of my parents so it deserves that title😂
And what is a "Nuss" in German (apart from hazelnuts, walnuts, etc.)? We call those (interchangable) sockets that you need to tighten nuts (the thing that we call "Mutter") a nut, a "Stecknuss" to be precise, because they get stuck on a wrench. And then there are mechanical objects that are called tumbler in English. You find them in crossbows and in firearms. They are the parts that get locked by the trigger mechanism. When the trigger is pressed they are released.
Also, some people are illiterate. If all signs have writing on them, those people wouldn’t be able to drive
1984 💀
In Dutch it’s called moer, an old fashioned form of moeder (mother). Just now realized the word is the same as the person moeder.
omg so that's why in indonesian it's called "mur". didn't know it's related to moeder/Mutter. Interesting 🤔
Why is it called NUT in English?
